We're inviting the people of Shropshire (and beyond!) to have a go at our Christmas quiz, which is designed to provide us with a view of how much people understand the role of their council, and is a light-hearted way of highlighting a very important point: council services touch the lives of everyone in the county.
It will also help to inform us on whether there are opportunities to raise awareness about the council and our services. With local government finance facing its most significant change for decades, it's more important than ever that we continue to engage with all our residents.
When you take part, you can indicate which market town area you live in, or nearby, and we'll publish a league table of market towns in the new year.
So if you want to represent your town, village or hamlet and pit your wits against the rest of Shropshire’s local communities, then have a go at our Christmas quiz!.
Closing date for submissions is Friday 19 January 2018.
Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace - your chance to nominate a deserving colleague
As part of the council’s membership of the Local Government Association, we are able to nominate a member of staff to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
The council’s management team would like to give all staff the opportunity to nominate a deserving colleague to attend. Names will then be placed in a ballot, with one name being chosen.
This person will be able to take a guest with them, but they must be over the age of 18 and resident in the UK.
The Garden Party will be on one of the following days: Tuesday 15 May 2018, Thursday 31 May 2018, or Tuesday 5 June 2018.
If you would like to nominate a colleague to attend, can you provide their full name, contact number and a paragraph on the reason for your nomination.
You should send your nomination to firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 8 January 2018.
Shropshire Libraries to host Human Library events to challenge stigma
Shropshire Libraries have teamed up with the Human Library™, and are looking for people to volunteer and become a ‘Human Library Book’. Events are planned for 2018 in Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Market Drayton, Whitchurch, Bridgnorth and Ludlow libraries.
What is the Human Library™?
The Human Library™ is a collection of individual human beings, drawn from different minority or marginalised groups in our community, that have somehow been exposed to stigma, misunderstanding or discrimination.
