Dementia Friends training available
Three members of staff from Shropshire Libraries have recently become Dementia Friends Champions following Alzheimer’s Society training. Heather Rodenhurst, Ellen Powell and Catherine Westwood can now facilitate Dementia Friends information sessions to give people a greater understanding of dementia and find out about some of the small ways that they can help people living with the condition.
If you or your team would like to become more dementia-friendly, a librarian can bring a free 45-minute information session to you at a time and venue of your choosing. Benefits of attending a session include an increased awareness of common features of the disease and a better knowledge of very simple ways to help.

Jon Walshaw, of children’s services, will be running the London Marathon in April. Inspired by his granddaughter’s bravery having recently been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, he is raising money for the invaluable support and services provided by charities such as Children with Cancer UK.
“She's the strongest girl we know and is an inspiration to us all. This is my attempt to give something back after all the help and support we receive for Tyler from her amazing team. I am more determined than ever to help raise as much money as possible to help stand up and beat cancer.”
