Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE is starting to be delivered. So far, we’ve had over 23K face masks and a lot of gloves. These will be distributed based on schedules from service areas.
Please note – we recognise the worry and frustration around not having PPE and we have shared in those concerns. We have raised this nationally through the various groups we work with and represent, and we have chased companies and contacts – we have even had this issue communicated through our MPs to central Government.
Please know that we have been exhausting every avenue to sort this and will continue to do so. This is a national issue and one we’ll overcome together. As we mentioned in yesterday’s announcement, new PPE guidelines are due to be published imminently.
Money for businesses, individuals and communities
The Government have today provided £91m to Shropshire Council for us to distribute to businesses in line with the announcements made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer two weeks ago. This money will be used to support business rates payers, either in receipt of small business rate relief or businesses in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector with a rateable value up to £51,000. Letters and emails are going out to businesses in the coming days and we expect to see this money flowing to businesses over the next few weeks. It is a positive move that the money has been made available for us to play our pivotal role in supporting those who need assistance during this pandemic.
As described yesterday, the IT team made a change to our infrastructure last night at 21:00 which went without a hitch and appears to have further stabilised things. Please remember to alert IT to any issues you are having as it enables them to identify problems which they can then work to fix. Thank you to all those who continue to try new software and technologies. Your IT business partners are available to help but your transformations have been noted and are greatly appreciated (link for more info on Intranet).
Working from home – teens and tots
We understand and appreciate many of you are working at home whilst at the same time supporting your children. This can obviously present a few challenges to say the least, whether that’s stopping your little one’s finger pressing the delete button on your laptop or trying to get your teenager to keep on top of their schoolwork! If you have any good formulas or techniques about how you overcome this, then please do share these on our new yammer Tips and Tricks page.
The government have also produced some good guidelines which you can find here. This advice is to help adults with caring responsibilities look after the mental health and wellbeing of children or young people, including those with additional needs and disabilities, during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
