Although there is appreciation all round, we must offer particular praise for those frontline staff still supporting families and the vulnerable. It is no exaggeration to say that without you, without us as a Local Authority, those people would potentially be facing a crisis situation we need not put into words – thank you, thank you, thank you. We are in this together, we will get through this together.
£295K funding for community groups
We are providing a package of financial support of £295k to community groups and voluntary organisations who are providing critical support to those impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19) living in Shropshire. As previously mentioned, we are all having to work differently, and it’s been amazing to see so many people embracing tools like Microsoft Teams. As a Directors team we have been using Teams for quite some time but extended the use to include Cabinet as meetings and decisions still need to take place. This has been a big step for many, but one we’ve taken well, congratulations everyone – it wasn’t so bad in the end was it? Some pictures of us using the technology, the picture on the right is our meeting with cabinet.
We do have a plea for people not to use their work laptops and devices for personal use whilst working from home. Our IT department are working to ensure the 2600 staff (another record) who are now logging on each day can do so, but there are many challenges to this, including problems that are out of our control. Thank you for your patience, the team are doing what they can, please continue to feed issues to the IT helpdesk or business partners but know changes are being made to improve things.
New Community Reassurance Team and Covid-19 helpline number
Today we have launched a new Community Reassurance Teams (CRT) and a dedicated phone line during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic to help those who are vulnerable and in need of help. The CRT will work across the county with our communities in an effort to coordinate support for local residents and businesses. Because we are now getting more enquiries related to Covid-19 issues, we will go live with the new helpline 0345 678 9028 this week which will be dedicated to trying to help with all related issues. As this situation develops this line may begin to take over from some of our business as usual numbers - You can find out more here: https://newsroom.shropshire.gov.uk/2020/03/community-reassurance-coronavirus-helpline/
