Our teams working to deliver the food parcels have done an amazing job getting these out in what can easily be described as difficult circumstances. These parcels form part of the Government’s scheme to distribute food to all those who need them and we’ve been working with food banks on food provisioning for the last few months.
Pete Banford, part of the Outdoor Shropshire Team, had this to say:
"First ten boxes all delivered. It’s quite an experience delivering the food, people were so grateful and some genuinely scared to open their doors.
Seeing how grateful people are is something that all involved in this should see.
Take care, Banford’s wholesalers open for deliveries 24/7 just call!!!"
A massive thank you to Pete and all those involved, it has meant giving up what would have been down time to help others which is so brilliantly typical of all of us in public sector – we echo your thoughts #proudoftheteam
A press release will come out in the next few days about the food parcels.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
We just want to let you know that the national PPE guidance is changing in in the next day or two. We aim to provide you all with an update on this by the end of the week. In the meantime, please see current updates on our Intranet.
We’d just like to say huge thanks to our housing team who have made considerable efforts to meet the government deadline, specifically to support those who are homeless gain access to housing to self-isolate. Our housing team have been working with local businesses and other organisations to ensure rough sleepers have access to accommodation to self-isolate and remain safe.
The team have been working with local B&B providers across the county to ensure there is a safe space for everyone who presents. To date, 24 rough sleepers have been placed at the Prince Rupert, supported by staff who have regular phone contact to ensure they are up to date with the situation but to also offer any reassurance regarding Covid19.
Our officers are working with social care colleagues to support for substance misuse and mental health issues. Our team have also been working closely with the Ark regarding options for rough sleepers, setting up ‘Calmer Café’ options with Mind for those experiencing mental health issues.
This week they will be working with our Community Reassurance team to ensure people have access to food parcels.
We like to remind anyone if they know of someone at risk of homelessness then they need to ring 0345 6789005 or report a rough sleeper by calling 0300 500 0914 or https://www.streetlink.org.uk/
Please continue to recycle and encourage those you know to do the same. Our waste and recycling collection teams are still providing a brilliant service, and much-deserved thank you notes and pictures from residents have been appearing on bins and boxes across the county in the past few days.
An excellent suggestion was made on Social Media to wipe down any handles on recycling boxes after you’ve put them out – I do not think this is too much to ask given the climate so please look to do that.
